Biography - Nicola Boud
(classical clarinet -
Australia)
Born
in Perth, Australia, Nicola Boud graduated with a Bachelor of Music in Clarinet
Performance from the University of Western Australia in 1998 gaining first class
honours, and was awarded the Edith Cowan Prize for most outstanding graduate in
performance and musicology. It was during her studies that Nicola began to work
on a casual basis with the Australian Chamber Orchestra on modern and historical
clarinets for tours and recordings. Whilst in Australia she performed at the
International Barossa Music Festival and the Huntingdon Festival, Mudgee.
In 2004, Nicola completed post-graduate studies in historical clarinet at the Koninklijk Conservatorium, Den Haag, with Eric Hoeprich. She also completed a
Mastère de practique de l’orchestre classique et romantique at the Centre
d'Etudes Supérieres de Musique et de Danse de Poitou- charentes, specialising in
late classical and romantic orchestral and chamber music.
Nicola
has played with many ensembles and orchestras including the Orchèstre des Champs
Elysées, The King’s Consort, Jeune Orchestre Atlantique, Neue Düsseldorf
Hofmusik, The Australian Bach Ensemble and the Sixth Floor Orchestra. She has
performed in festivals including the Académies Musicales festival in Saintes,
the Oude Muziek Festival, Utrecht, and the Accademia Delle Crete Senesi
Festival, Toscana.
An active chamber musician, Nicola is a member of the Granadilla Trio, with whom
she toured in Japan for performances in 2003. As a soloist, Nicola appeared with
the Sixth Floor Orchestra in Helsinki, Finland in 2002 to perform the music of
Crusell for radio broadcast, and in March 2003 she was soloist in a performance
of the Mozart Clarinet Concerto directed by Ryo Terakado.
