Biography - Jani
Sunnarborg
(classical bassoon -
Finland)
Jani
Sunnarborg studied the modern bassoon at the Sibelius-Academy in his home
country Finland. Before finishing though he decided to specialise in early music
and left to study historical bassoons in the Royal Conservatory of the Hague the
Netherlands with Donna Agrell and in France at the CNSMD de Paris and in the
Formation Supérieure of Jeune Orchèstre Atlantique with Marc Vallon. Jani's
specialities now are all dulcians, baroque, classical and romantic bassoons in
all possible and impossible pitches and tunings. He has also cultivated
himself with studies in harpsichord and organ, and, mostly for his own
entertainment, he also plays the oboe da caccia.
Jani
is now based in Paris and performs as chamber and orchestra musician all over
Europe, mostly in France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and Finland with
several ensembles and orchestras amongst which Les musiciens du Louvre, Orchèstre des Champs Elysées, Cappriccio Stravagante, Freiburger Barockorchester,
La Grande Ecurie et la Chambre du Roy, in Finland the Sixth Floor Orchestra,
Helsinki Baroque and Opus X. A refreshing change in musical style, technical
requirements, use of brain capacity and instruments (also da caccia, organ and
harpsichord) is provided by the Finnish Ensemble Ambrosius who plays music of
Frank Zappa and contemporary music on baroque instruments. Jani's greatest pleasure
is found in making chamber music. As well as the
Halcyon Ensemble, he is also a member of the baroque ensemble Astraali.
