Biography - Halcyon
Ensemble
The
Halcyon Ensemble is an international young piano and winds quintet performing on
period instruments. Halcyon has as its core the piano and winds quintet, but in
order to maintain flexibility and to be able to explore a greater range of the
classical and romantic chamber music repertoire, the ensemble enjoys
collaborating with guest artists, as well as breaking into smaller combinations
within the ensemble.
Since its formation in 2002, Halcyon has performed in England, Belgium, France
and Holland, including concerts in the Early Music Festivals of Saintes (2002),
Utrecht (2003) and Brugge (2005). They have toured with the Oude Muziek Netwerk
in The Netherlands (2004), and participated in the Note Bene Forum in France
(2004). Halcyon has also been winners of the International Young Artists
Presentation in Antwerp, prize-winners in the Van Wassenaar Concours in The
Hague and finalists of the York Early Music Competition, and have made radio
broadcasts in France, Belgium, The Netherlands and England.
As a result of winning the International Young Artists Presentation The Halcyon
Ensemble released their first CD on the Passacaille label in 2005. In keeping
with the ensemble's commitment to both renowned and unexplored repertoire, this
CD presented the quintets for piano and winds by Beethoven and Lannoy.
Halcyon's members are all active orchestral musicians and work with ensembles
such as Les musiciens du Louvre, Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra, Freiburger
Barockorchester, Orchèstre des Champs Elysées, and The Kings Consort.
Engagements for 2006 include concerts and tours in Germany, Finland, Belgium,
Holland and the United Kingdom, including an appearance at the Edinburgh
Festival and a second CD recording for Passacaille.
